I am happy to welcome guest blogger Pat Broe, from Life in the Scrapatch. I met Pat in an online quilting group during the first days of my quilting adventures, and have enjoyed learning and growing as a quilter alongside her. Pat attended one of our Mystery Quilt Retreats and has hosted many of our swaps on The Quilt and Needle Forum. She is a very talented sewist, an exceptional color addict, and a generous friend. I am excited to share the first of two pictorial posts from Ms. Pat, wherein she provides ideas and inspiration for cutting and placing those pesky fun directional fabrics.
Fabric Hack
noun [fabrik-hak]
1. effective fabric cutting
Hello! I am Pat @ Life in the Scrapatch. I want to thank Jessica for inviting me to guest blog here at quiltHacks.com! Thanks, also, to Melissa for working with me on this post.
You’ve got the fabric. It has direction. You have purpose.
Time to “hack” it.
How do you cut it and maximize it’s potential?
Think before your cut … and then get surgical and cut it to the quick.

Do you have a fabulous directional fabric that remains uncut and untouched in your stash? Tell us about your directional print and your plan (or lack of plan) for it.
Join us next Monday as Pat returns to share more eye candy and inspiration to help you cut and place your beautiful directional fabrics. You don’t want to miss how the rest of her “bird” quilt top unfolds and how some of these birdies worked their way into a uniquely pieced backing. In the meantime, visit Life in the Scrapatch for more of Ms. Pat’s musings.
Piece out,
Jess
P.S. Did you know you can sign up to receive our next quiltHack via email?
